The Nature of the Program

Nature of the Program: The Celebration Program will begin from the evening of May 4 and end in the evening of May 7, 2010. It will begin with a lighting of Gospel Centenary flame on the evening of May 4 when people from various assigned corners will take a procession with torches in hands and meet together at the Public Ground.

Public Worship programs will be held in the evenings and in the mornings during May 5-7, 2010 and Seminars will be conducted in the afternoons. Detail information will be made available later. Rev. Dr. Geoff Tunnicliffe, International Director, World Evangelical Alliance has kindly accepted our invitation to be the main Speaker. Rev. Chawngliana Moderator, Mizoram Presbyterian Church Synod will light the Centenary Flame and give a keynote address. Others speakers include Bishop Rev. Kevin Leibensperger who will also inaugurate the Gospel Centenary Monument.

The goal of the program is two-fold; to celebrate the life-changing power of the Gospel and to prepare the Church for the challenges ahead. A comparison of the lives of the people between the Pre-Christian Era and the Post-Christian Era in itself is a testimony to the life changing power of the Gospel. The lives of the people itself is a living testimony to the truth of the words of Paul, "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek." (Romans 1:16). Centenary Celebration is once-in-a-lifetime event and we will spare no effort in making this celebration a success. It does deserve a celebration!

Secondly having been Christians for the last hundred years, what challenges does the Church in Southern Manipur confronts in this 21st century and how will it face these challenges? This is the area we will explore at the Seminars with Rev. James Ehrman, Yale University, USA, Rev. Dino L. Touthang, Habitat for Humanity, New Delhi, Rev. Dr. Ginneih Thang Ngaihte, OMF International, Phillippines and Rev. Dr. Ken Miller, Professor, Evangelical Theological Seminary, Myerstown, PA, USA as they take us through a tour of World Christian Demography, the mission opportunities we have in the global scenario, and also review our understanding and practice of Mission in our world today. No doubt, this will be not only a joyous celebration, but also a time for the Church to strategically realign itself with our time and our world as it braces itself to reach the world for Christ and His Kingdom.

Erection of Monuments: To commemorate this auspicious event, the following monuments will be erected for the future generation:
  1. Centenary Gate across the road along the National Highway at the entrance of the region.
  2. Centenary monuments in the heart of the town and at Senvon Village where the Gospel was first preached in the region.
  3. Publish a colourful Souvenir Magazine containing vital documents pertaining to the growth and development of the Church.
