Celebrating Hundred Years of Glorious Transformation

The entrance of the Gospel of Jesus Christ among the people of Southern Manipur, India will be a hundred years by 2010! The region has been occupied by very fierce groups of tribes who knew nothing except to wage war and fight among themselves. But the manner in which they respond to the message of the Gospel is so dramatic they are considered to be one of the most responsive people groups to the Gospel of Jesus Christ!

Thanks to the Welsh Revival in 1906 that changed the life of a young man by the name of Watkin Roberts who became instrumental in the hands of God Almighty to bring the light of the Gospel to these people. Under his initiative three missionaries among his raw converts from the neighboring state of Mizoram namely, Savawma, Thangchhingpuia and Vanzika came to Senvawn, a village in the southern tip of Manipur state bordering the state of Mizoram on May 7, 1910 thus ushering in the age of the Gospel among the tribal groups.

Within a few years a Mission was founded which is called North East India General Mission (NEIGM) which vigorously began taking up the task of propagating the Gospel among these fierce tribal groups and also in the north east region of India. Today the region of Southern Manipur has one of the highest concentrations of Christians in the whole of India. Many churches and denominations have sprung up over the years, but all claiming their roots from the North East India General Mission. The North East India General Mission merged with the Evangelical Congregational Church of USA in 1986 and came to be known as the Evangelical Congregational Church of India.

A meeting of various denominational leaders under the initiative of Evangelical Congregational Church of India, was held on March 25, 2006. Most of the churches and denominations of the region were represented in the meeting and a committee was formed to spearhead the preparations for the grand celebration of Gospel Centenary in 2010.

The Organizing Committee welcomes every form of assistance and suggestions to make this celebration a success. For further information and suggestions please contact:
